Prerequisites

Before you begin, verify you have:

WordPress & PHP

• WordPress: 5.0.0+ (tested up to 6.8)
• PHP: 7.4+ required, 8.0+ recommended
• MySQL: 5.7+ or MariaDB 10.2+
• Memory: 128MB minimum, 256MB recommended

Server Configuration

• cURL: Enabled (required for API communication)
• SSL/HTTPS: Recommended for secure API key storage
• WP-Cron: Must be enabled for automation jobs

Required Dependencies

• WooCommerce: Active installation required (version 6.0+)
• API Provider Account: OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter (free tiers available)

Quick Start: WordPress Plugin Directory Installation

This is the easiest method for most users:

1. Navigate to WordPress admin → Plugins → Add New

2. Search for "AI Product Tools" in the search box

3. Install by clicking Install Now on "AI Product Content Generator"

4. Activate by clicking Activate after installation completes

Alternative: Manual ZIP Upload

If you have a premium version or downloaded the plugin separately:

1. Download the ai-product-tools.zip file to your computer

2. Navigate to Plugins → Add New in WordPress admin

3. Click the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page

Advanced: FTP/SFTP Installation

For developers or when WordPress upload limits are restrictive:

1. Extract the ai-product-tools.zip file on your computer

   • This creates an ai-product-tools folder

2. Connect to your server via FTP/SFTP client (FileZilla, Cyberduck, etc.)

3. Navigate to /wp-content/plugins/ directory on your server

4. Upload the entire ai-product-tools folder to the plugins directory

5. Activate in WordPress admin → Plugins → Installed Plugins

After activation, AI Product Tools automatically redirects you to the toolkit dashboard where you can complete setup.

What Happens After Activation

1. WooCommerce Check - Plugin verifies WooCommerce is active

2. Onboarding Modal - Setup wizard opens automatically (can be dismissed and reopened later)

1. Welcome & Provider Selection

   • Choose AI provider: OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter

2. API Key Entry

   • Paste your API key from provider dashboard
   • Click Validate Key to test connection
   • Green checkmark confirms successful connection

3. Setup Complete

   • Click Complete Setup to finish

Verify Successful Installation

Complete these checks to ensure everything is working:

1. Check Menu Visibility

1. Look in WordPress admin sidebar for "AI Product Tools" menu item

2. Click the menu to expand submenu items:

   • Toolkit (main dashboard)
   • Settings
   • Advanced Bulk Generator
   • Title Generator
   • Automation Jobs

2. Test Metabox Integration

1. Navigate to Products → All Products

2. Edit any existing product

3. Scroll down on product edit screen to find "AI Product Tools" metabox

1. Click AI Product Tools → Toolkit in admin menu

Troubleshooting Installation Issues

Issue: "Plugin Won't Activate"

Symptoms: Error message when clicking Activate, or activation fails silently

Common Causes & Solutions:

1. Check PHP version

   # Run in terminal or check phpinfo()
   php -v

   • Requires PHP 7.4+
   • Upgrade via hosting control panel if needed

2. Increase memory limit

   • Edit wp-config.php, add before "/* That's all, stop editing! */" line:

   define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

3. Check for plugin conflicts

   • Deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce
   • Try activating AI Product Tools
   • Reactivate plugins one by one to find conflict

Issue: "WooCommerce Required" Notice Persists

3. Clear cache: Browser cache and WordPress cache plugins
4. Check aipt_onboarding_completed option in database isn't set to true prematurely

Issue: Can't Upload Plugin ZIP (File Too Large)

Symptoms: "The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive" error

Solutions:

Method 1: Increase Upload Limit Edit php.ini or .htaccess:

upload_max_filesize = 64M
post_max_size = 64M

Method 2: Use FTP Installation Follow "Advanced: FTP/SFTP Installation" section above

Method 3: Contact Hosting Ask host to increase upload limits temporarily
